The Southwest 2007, Getting there - Day 1: 22 April 2007

by Cosette

Today I woke up early and got ready to go on the airplane. Rosie, my science teacher's younger sister, had slept over.

We got all ready, and got picked up by Kelli (my classmate) and her mom.

When we got to the airport we waited in very long lines.

We saw a lot of our other classmates around the airport. When we got through security and baggage claim, we ate some breakfast and got on the plane.

I sat with Kelli and Katharine. We talked and ate food. I read a lot of my book. We landed after 2 hours.

The sun was shining and we were really excited to be in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

When we all got our bags we went outside to meet our bus driver. His name was Fermin, and he was really nice, he is only going to be our bus driver for the first few days of our trip.

We went to a museum called the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. We had a work sheet that we needed to do so my friend Fizzy and I went around trying to find all of the answers. We got to eat fresh-made bread from a traditional Native American oven. It was very good!

Great bread! (at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center) And the apple cake was quite good too.

When we were there we met up with Bennard and Frances. They are going to be our guides for the two week trip! It is very cool because they are real Hopi Indians.

For dinner we went to Old Town Albuquerque. We ate Mexican food; it was very good. Then we looked around. Many Native Americans were selling the jewelry that they had made. It was really pretty!

Tonight we are staying at Comfort Inn and Suites. It has a pool so I am very excited. I had a very fun first day!
